TASTE of Success!

As you all know we had our our first Annual Blog Meeting and thanks to your participation it went off without a hitch. Sadly not all members could make it to the event so here is a little hint of what the night had in store.

We all caught up and had mostly a social hour paired with wine and a few appetizers. Our gracious host Uwe helped to enhance the evening with the first comp'd drink of the night. We had a fairly large turn out for the night. Pictured below are a majority of the attendees.





















We discussed a few strategies to make the blog more of a resource for all members. Soon I will be working to generate new links within the blog to help existing and new members with setting up personal profile information, uploading pictures and posting topics of their own. I am pleased to see we are well on our way to having a robust and diversely populated Interior Design Social Network. I will be sending out updates as soon as I am able to generate them.

Thanks to all who made it out and those who made an effort to attend. We hope to see all of you at the next meeting.

To show our legislators we are serious and committed to passing our proposed practice act! Join us in educating legislators and the community about the interior design profession as we line the halls of the Legislative Building. We need everyone to participate and demonstrate our passion!

Lunch will be provided to all registered attendees
12:00pm Talk with legislators, spread awareness, Legislative building

REGISTRATION: REGISTER ME TODAY!

Registration is FREE! We just need to know if you're coming! Upon receipt of registration volunteers receive email confirmation. A package of information, including directions, parking information, and a schedule of events will be emailed to all registered attendees one week prior to the event. When you arrive at the Olympia volunteers will be given a package of information for the day, including handouts for your legislators and key talking points. Complete information on how to connect and meet with your legislators, maps, and room numbers will be provided at that time.

1% Pro Bono + 99% A&D = 100% Great Cause

The 1%, a program of Public Architecture, connects nonprofits with architecture and design firms willing to give of their time 'pro bono'.

>>Potential impact

If every architecture professional in the U.S. committed 1% of their time to pro bono service, it would add up to 5,000,000 hours annually - the equivalent of a 2,500-person firm, working full-time for the public good.

>> Background

Launched by Public Architecture in 2005 with the support of a grant from the National Endowment for the Arts, The 1% is a first-of-its-kind effort to encourage pro bono service within the architecture and design professions.

>> Pro bono defined

The 1% program defines pro bono service to be professional services rendered in the public interest without expectation of a fee or with a significant reduction in fees.

>> Pro bono Clients

The 1% program focuses primarily on 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations as appropriate pro bono clients. These organizations have been relieved of their tax burden in recognition of the societal benefit that they provide.

The Soul of a Nice Guy

For all of you that remember the very charismatic and passionate instructor Aaron Swar, who retired from AIS in 2005, you know how infectious his personality was. I am pleased to announce that after his term at AIS he pursued his personal goal of publishing a book and has succeeded in doing so.
